Well, I’ve been working and struggling with my moose. The last that you saw of this project, our little moose looked like this:
I was not happy with this outcome. I pressed it out as much as it would go but it is still incredibly puckery. Not happy with that at all. So, I tried a couple different stabilizers, different layers of stabilizers and then I tried something different.
First I bought some nicer heavier-weight cotton fabric. I used a stick on stabilizer on the back and a wash off stabilizer on the front. As I’m writing this, I don’t know if...

So, I started working on my Moose Dress for my Handmade Swap partner. I began by importing Mary’s moose image into my embroidery program and I converted the image into embroidery stitches. Moose Image Embroidery Conversion The colors on the conversion don’t really matter. I can use whatever threads I want to. I changed the white to blue simply so that I could see it. Moose Embroidery Can you see all the puckers around the embroidery? I’m going to have to redo this with some different interfacing. I like...

What? That is crazy. Well, I am participating in a Handmade Swap that Bird and Little Bird is putting together. It might not be too late to sign up if you would like to join in. Each person is given a swap partner and mine is Cheryl Heughins from SewingHaven. The ruling of the new CPSIA law is going into effect on February 10th, so that is the day that we must mail out our handcrafted items. Since I make children’s garments (mostly dresses) my handmade item is going to be a dress for Cheryl’s daughter. Here is the information...

My eldest daughter Rosemary is 8! That is so crazy to me on so many levels. First it means that I’m getting old! Second it means that I’m getting old. Oh, wait. I already said that. Ahhh…must be losing it. Of course I had to make her a birthday dress. And here it is courtesy of Alexander Henry’s “Sprites of Tillbrook.” Can you see how the back is all gathered up? I don’t really care for ties on dresses which is what is usually used to pull in wide bodices....

I think one of the most important parts of designing is not to be married to any one idea. Keep working through things, try new colors, shapes, etc. Try things even if you know it isn’t what you want. Maybe it will get you to a place you do want to be. And so let’s continue with Inspiration Friday. Here’s where we left off yesterday. I’m going to take the blue color and design a bird. This little guy needs some place to rest. Now, I’m just going to play. ...

It is time to let go of all of our items so that we can start fresh. Mamma Made is turning a new corner and will be offering fabrics, patterns, and the one I’m most excited about…SEWING KITS! Yes, you heard it right, we are probably the first to offer clothing sewing kits and I’m very very excited about it. If all of the sudden you see all the big wigs offering sewing kits, you can look at the date I wrote this post and know that I thought of it first! It really makes sense, there are kits for...

You can find inspiration in almost everything. I was watching Charlie and Lola with my daughter and I just love the bright, bold, colorful prints Lola wears on her dresses. It’s so very fun and playful. I am going to work on some new designs this week. I’ll post a little bit each day so you can see how I progress. My first idea is that I would like to re-create a big bold flower pattern. I’ll be interested to see what happens at the end of the week because I always end up with something...

Today is my eldest brother Daniel’s birthday. I wish I had some fun pictures of the two of us when we were little, but alas, I don’t. He didn’t get his birthday present on his birthday, but hey, it will be an even bigger surprise when he opens it in the mail. I was trying to think of something thoughtful to make him. He and his wife, Elin, just bought a beautiful house and they have been working very hard to fix it up. They are both artists and their home reflects their individual taste. Here is Daniel with his...

We are finally getting to the end of our Spoonflower development series for all of you (and me!) that may need a “jump start” to making some awesome fabric designs. Please check out the beginning of my series as well. Today we are going to explore GIMP a little bit and finally upload our file to Spoonflower for printing. At this point we have already gone through these processes: Thinking About And Creating Your Design Computer Art Programs And What They Do Getting To Know Inkscape, A Vector...

I am the mother of three children ranging from 20 months to 8 years old. My children do like to sleep in, but maybe until 7:30; 8:00 at the latest. Last week I opened my eyes, stretched, and looked at the clock. It was 9:00 am and no sight or sound of the children. I saw my husband Jon walking into the bedroom and I asked him if he saw the girls and he said no. I thought I should get up and see what’s going on. This is what we found: My eldest daughter Rosemary had...
