Zippers! Zippers! Zippers!

Zippers are a difficult sewing task to get just right.  I think that zippers are crucial for children's wear so it's important to get the job done well.  Why zippers, you ask?  Well, when you have a squirmy child and you need to get them dressed, zippers are the quickest answer to that problem  They are strong, durable, and FAST!  Garments that have those tiny buttons on them--forget it!  My hands just graze over them while picking out a garment in the morning for the kids.

DOES THE KIND OF ZIPPER MATTER? Of course it does. Invisible zippers are beautiful zippers to install and look at.  They hide in the seam and lend a smoother line to the garment.  For awhile I was convinced that invisible zippers were the way to go.  However, I am retracting that thought for a couple of reasons.  Although they are beautiful, they are much weaker than the standard zipper.  Tugging on these zippers can lead to "zipper blow out" (not dissimilar to "diaper blow-out") as I say.  When that happens-you need to replace the entire zipper.  Since we're dealing with kids here, tugging on a zipper is what parents do best, so for what we are doing--the standard zipieceinventorypper is best.

I love this site that I'm directing you to for the perfect zipper insertion instructions.  Fashion-Incubator is a source of jewel-like wealth for this industry.  Here you to can learn to put in the perfect zipper.

If you need instruction to put in an invisible zipper, you can check out that info here.

Have fun with your zippers and send in pictures or comments of your perfect insertions!

Love, Rachel
