Christmas Sewing - Doll Clothes

I mentioned that I had a bit of sewing to do for Christmas.  Right now I'm working on a bunch of things: Doll Clothes, Place-mats for my Mom, a Dress for my daughter's Pre-K teacher, and of course Mamma Made items. So much fun, so little time!

The doll clothes for the 18" American Girl doll have been fun, yet surprisingly time consuming.  I don't know if it's because I'm so used to making my own patterns it's difficult to follow the directions of another or what.  All I know is that it seems to take a painfully long time to crank out something so little.  I will share with you the couple that I've made and you can take a peek at the ones I'm currently working on.

Here are two dresses in two different time periods for my Rosemary and Esther.  The first is for the Kit doll, which is historically place in the Great Depression Era (1933).  The other is for the Felicity doll, which is in the colonial time period (1774).

They were pretty fun to make.  I'm also going to make each doll a nightgown using pink accent for Rosemary and blue accent for Esther.  I just started the process of sewing the nightgown.  Here is a picture of the blue one:

DollClothesGI bought eyelet fabric for the nightgown and wove blue ribbon in and out of the holes to add a bit of color and interest.  I'm also preventing endless fighting between my girls over the ownership of nightgowns. You moms know exactly what I'm talking about.  Another nice thing about this fabric is that you have an instant decorative hem.  Awesome.  Anything to make the job easier. Just the shoulder seams are sewn right now and as you can see, I didn't even start the sleeping cap.

I'm also making four matching dresses for my two nieces (Lilly and Ida) and my two girls.  The cousins play so well together and I thought it would be fun for them to have the same dress but in different fabrics to show their individual personalities a bit more.  This is a pretty generic dress with a bow cummerbund to cinch in the waist. Here they are in various forms of completion:

That's all for now.  I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Love, Rachel
